One of the bigger storylines this offseason that we have been monitoring is the case of Deshaun Watson (HOU). Watson is a very capable top ten QB that fantasy managers should keep an eye on the growing situation. It started with his demanding out of Houston, even though he just signed a huge contract to keep him there for the next four years. That, of itself, was very peculiar. It was understandable because they inexplicably got rid of one of the top receivers in the league, and his top target, four a couple peanuts and a pat on the back. They also did not interview coaches that he recommended. These coaches were of color which made that lack of diversity in interviews very questionable to the Rooney Rule. So he was understandably frustrated….just didn’t seem like to the extent of refusing to ever play in Houston again.
But than…….like all good story, it got interesting. As of today there are now 17 sexual misconduct accusers, a lot in massage parlors, saying he crossed the line. I understand that someone is innocent until proven guilty, however, there is a lot of smoke for there not being a fire. The Texans have got to be slapping their palms in their faces right now. Not only did their franchise quarterback say he wanted to be traded and wouldn’t play again for them, he now has so many accusers that it is looking likely he will receive some kind of suspension to began the season. All of a sudden, those pile of picks they could have gotten in a trade are dwindling. Teams trying to rebuild with a star quarterback may start second-guessing giving up a huge draft load for a now tarnished player. I am moving him easily out of the top 10, around 15 if he stays with Houston, and maybe 12 if he gets on a new rebuilding team and gets a suspension. We will keep an eye as this develops.
