Trade Fallout

Two of the biggest trades happened far before the “official” start of the 2021 season. Matthew Stafford (DET) traded for Jared Goff (LAR) with picks going to Detroit as well. Carson Wentz (PHI) got traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a couple picks. Now we need to analyze how these trades will affect the coming fantasy season. Will Jared Goff and Carson Wentz make their new teams playoff contenders, will Stafford make the Rams a Super Bowl contender?

The answer is absolutely not and Yes. Carson Wentz has had an injury history that has not helped his image. There are already rumors of how his work ethic was being questioned in Philly. He had glimpses of greatness that were overshadowed by poor decision-making and leadership. He is going to a team in a weak division with a solid team around him. However, he either will not make it healthy, or he will be replaced.

Matthew Stafford gets the best trade spot out of both trades. He now is with a team that was already a Super Bowl contender. He has a defense that is in the top five of the league. He has an abundance of offensive weapons and gets the protection of one of the best O-lines in the league. Jared Goff was able to perform because of these things. Now he is going to Detroit, that is in full rebuild mode. He is now nearly as skilled as Stafford or as tough. He will be lucky to not be benched for a younger, potential future QB, Goff is there for the short term, so is Wentz, but Stafford is there for the Lombardi.
