Running Back Rankings – PPR

Running B

These are the running back rankings for the 2023 fantasy football season based on PPR scoring.

  1. Bijan Robinson – Atlanta Falcons= Many expert rankings have Bijan ranked 3rd or lower. He is a generational talent at running back and he landed with a run-first team. They will line him up as a receiver and get a lot of targets out of the backfield. At the end of the season, it is very possible that he is number one in fantasy.
  2. Christian McCaffrey – San Francisco 49ers
  3. Austin Eckler – Los Angeles Chargers
  4. Jonathan Taylor – Indianapolis Colts
  5. Josh Jacobs – Las Vegas Raiders
  6. Saquon Barkley – New York Giants= Currently Barkley is on a franchise tag and the two sides have yet to come up with an agreement he has said that sitting out is a possibility. If he starts the season, he will be moved up a couple of spots.
  7. Derrick Henry – Tennessee Titans
  8. Rhamondre Stevenson – New England Patriots
  9. Tony Pollard – Dallas Cowboys= Currently Pollard is lined up to be the starting running back for the Cowboys. There are rumors that Ezekiel Elliot could sign back with the team, in which case would drop Pollard in the rankings. He is still talented enough to make an impact even with another running back taking touches.
  10. Nick Chubb – Cleveland Browns
  11. Travis Etienne Jr – Jacksonville Jaguars
  12. Aaron Jones – Green Bay Packers
  13. Najee Harris – Pittsburgh Steelers
  14. Breece Hall – New York Jets= Hall was in tears at the beginning of his rookie year. An unfortunate injury ended his season and fantasy owners are hoping he returns to top-ten form. The injury is concerning though.
  15. Joe Mixon – Cincinnati Bengals= There was a lot of talk about Mixon being traded or released from the team. It appears that he will be the starter this year. Mixon should not be viewed as anything more than an RB2.
  16. Jahmyr Gibbs – Detroit Lions
  17. Kenneth Walker III – Seattle Seahawks= Walker remains one of the most explosive running backs in the game. However, Seattle drafted Zach Charbonnet who looks to cut into Walker’s time on the field. If not for Charbonnet he would be ranked higher.
  18. James Connor – Arizona Cardinals
  19. Alexander Mattison – Minnesota Vikings= Mattison has a similar skill set to Dalvin Cook and now looks to replace him as the starter. In years past he was viewed as one of the better handcuffs to have. His ability to be a full-time fantasy running back is a question mark. He has a high potential ceiling or at worst he is a low-end RB2.
  20. Dameon Pierce – Houston Texans
  21. Miles Sanders – Carolina Panthers
  22. David Montgomery – Detroit Lions= Montgomery is getting no love in the fantasy world. Detroit has a shiny new toy in Jahmyr Gibbs, but they also signed Montgomery to a nice contract. He was more than capable back in Chicago and now goes to a team where the offense is going to move the ball.
  23. Rachaad White – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  24. J.K. Dobbins – Baltimore Ravens
  25. Cam Akers – Los Angeles Rams= Akers is a hard player to rank based on last year’s production. At the beginning of the year, he looked like he was going to be cut by the team, and in the second half he looked like a very capable running back. He has been listed on breakout lists and bust lists.
  26. Dalvin Cook – Free Agent= It is hard to rank Cook since as of this writing he does not have a team. He still has the talent to be a starting running back for at least one more year.
  27. Isiah Pacheco – Kansas City Chiefs
  28. D’Andre Swift – Philadelphia Eagles
  29. Javonte Williams – Denver Broncos= The biggest concern is when Williams will play. He is coming off a major surgery and the question is also how he will rebound in an offense that was not dynamic last year.
  30. James Cook – Buffalo Bills
  31. A.J. Dillon – Green Bay Packers
  32. Khalil Herbert – Chicago Bears
  33. Brian Robinson – Washington Redskins
  34. Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints= After a down year Kamara is looking at a likely suspension to start the season. The number of games has not been revealed by the NFL because the court case is still pending. When and IF Kamara plays, do not expect him to return to fantasy stardom.
  35. Jamaal Williams – New Orleans Saints
  36. Samaje Perine – Denver Broncos= Perine has the opportunity to be the starting running back if Javonte Williams is out for the first couple of weeks.
  37. Rashaad Penny – Philadelphia Eagles= Given a full season Penny can be a top-ten running back. The problem is that he never finishes even half of the season. Penny is a pick that will score you a lot of points the first month, but don’t expect much after that.
  38. Antonio Gibson – Washington Redskins
  39. Jeff Wilson Jr – Miami Dolphins
  40. Raheem Mostert – Miami Dolphins
  41. Damien Harris – Buffalo Bills= It is yet to be determined how the Bill’s backfield will share touches. If Harris is a first and second down back, and goal-line work, he could project up in the 20s.
  42. Devin Singletary – Houston Texans
  43. Zach Charbonnet – Seattle Seahawks= Charbonnet is going to take touches and receptions away from Kenneth Walker. He is a better receiver than Walker was last year. Seattle is also not a team known for having top fantasy running backs.
  44. Elijah Mitchell – San Francisco 49ers= Solely a handcuff for Christian McCaffery.
  45. Tyler Allgeier – Atlanta Falcons= Allgeier had a solid 1,000-yard rushing season last year for the Falcons. However, they drafted Bijan Robinson to become their starting running back. Allgeier has the potential to still get touches on a team focused on running the ball. He is also one of the best handcuffs to have.
